It was great to see three outstanding young women, Jorja Manera, Maisy Glancy and Victoria Soutar, be presented their Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Awards by South Westland Area School Principal Mr Nick Glancy. Also joining in this presentation were Teachers Mr Rob Kelynack and Miss Kirsten Hollings who have been instrumental in supporting and mentoring Award students at the school.
Jorja was presented her Silver Award for completing Netball for her Physical Recreation section, Coaching for her Skills section, Various projects including camp leader for her Service section and Adventurous Journeys in the Hokitika Gorge and Queen Charlotte regions. Maisy was presented her Silver Award for completing a Fitness programme for her Physical Recreation section, Reading for her Skills section, Proper Waste Disposal projects including recycling for her Service section and Adventurous Journeys in the Hokitika Gorge and Queen Charlotte regions. Victoria was presented her Bronze Award for completing Running for her Physical Recreation section, Agriculture for her Skills section, Various projects including running games for junior students for her Service section and Adventurous Journeys in the Hokitika Gorge and Okarito regions.
Special thanks to all who have supported and mentored Jorja, Maisy and Victoria throughout their Award programme, including their Section Assessors and all the wonderful staff and management at South Westland Area School. Search The Way Award Unit looks forward to not only presenting Jorja, Maisy, and Victoria their next level of Award in the near future, but also a number of other South Westland Area School students who are on the Award journey. There's no doubt about it - South Westland Shines!
